From day one of the first semester of Junior year in Humanities, we had covered a huge topic which lead us into many topic within it that led us to this final project. We have been covering topics of labor issues backing time to the industrial revolution where many people were put in the upmost worst job conditions ever. We have covered how this happened and what, why, and where this took place. As a class, we read articles, did projects, did essays, and timed writing. We took this information that we learned and we dove into what was happening nowadays and where it can most likely take us in the future. We had studied this for a while discussing jobs that are at risk and such. We took into consideration types of income in our group as ours were Local Economy. We then after took of what jobs are in danger and brought it into our projects where we broke up into groups and worked on types of labor that could be very well taken in the future or what ever topic we wanted to study on whether it is technology, education, and much more! I chose as being in the group Automation/technology. We researched how this can be taking over certain jobs with then creating a podcast. This podcast was created by our group to discuss automation and the pro and cons about it interviewing people with concerns or relations with automation/technology.

Industrial Revolution Colin Papenhagen 9/28/18 Period 6
Although the Industrial Revolution was an era of horror and a dreadful time for the working class, it has shaped America in being the biggest and most successful economic system bringing us far into technology and health.
The Pre-Industrial revolution in America was an awful time in history for the working class and for the poor making the lifestyles, working conditions and life life in general miserable and unbearable. Where we nowadays don't even think of working in such places where these people would have worked in let alone having child labor exist within them. During the Industrial time of America, it was truly a dark age for everyone that had to work. People would have to work hours that we thought would be impossible to us because back then, the pay was just too little for someone who worked only 8 hours a day so they would work even more and most likely, they would have children be working. Not only were these hours unbearable for children but they would be working in conditions that were extremely dangerous. The child labor was one of the biggest issues creating the revolution and how we had come from this horrible act. In the article of “The Bitter Cry of the Children”, written by John Spargo, we talked about how the conditions for the child labor was just outrageous and the mortality rate for the working children was too cruel as well. The children could be working in places such as coal mines or coal breakers that back then for human labor, was very hard and very dangerous. In the article, John described how the conditions were for the children and how it morphed into kind of like a everyday getting used to for them. Children would be in the most uncomfortable positions morphing they bones and shoulders. “When a boy has been working for some time and begins to get rounded-shouldered, his fellows say that “He’s got his boy to carry around whenever he goes.”” The conditions were just outrageous for children and we see nowadays how crazy and just how dangerous it was. “Within the breaker there was blackness, clouds of deadly dust enfolded everything”, says John. “My hands were bruised and cut in a few minutes; I was covered from head to foot with coal dust.” “I was expectorating some of the small particles of anthracite I had swallowed.” Children would be dying from the harsh conditions from not only just coal mines and inhaling very bad dust fumes, but also be getting killed while on job weather they are haldening heavy equipment and such. It was clearly just not fair for any of the workers including children and their huge mortality rate. With the help and braveness of speaking up, we would have not gotten to where we are now in today's society.
As the industrial revolutions was a complete horror age for all working class, if the revolutions had never happened, we would have not been where we are today in America. We have come far in categories of health, hourly job employment, child labor, or as people would call it, “Money Slaves” In the industrial age of the United States, children and Adults had to work for money obviously but the child labor was a huge deal though. As Charlie Armstrong says from Quora.com “In a world without the Industrial Revolution, we would still be using slaves for labor.” As what he means by that is that people would call it “money slaves” yet they work alot for very little pay. People would see this everywhere with harsh conditions for workers as it would look like slaves.

Project Reflection
During this project of Labor, my group had faced many challenges which affect our final project, but for me, my biggest challenge was recording. Thus we had recorded everything fine, we had many scenarios that caused us to have “less great” project. What I mean by that is our productivity went down with bad audio and also we had goofed around a lot with recording. I mean, why not laugh at your own voice when you mess up, right? But this led on to more messing around leaving us record at the last minute. We wasted a lot of time to be recording and now we can't get that back and now we have not the best audio. Going into the fact that the audio that we had recorded with our interviewees, we had a lot of bad audio. When we thought that we had the best audio, when we listened to it, we had all kinds of screw ups like skipping and such. We overcame this by having more interviews with more people so that if one recording didn't go so well, we would have many backups. This was very helpful because if it weren't for these other interviews, we would not be where we are today.
If I could go back a and could do something differently, I would most \ change my attitude with my group members. During the last part of the project of Labor, we were just finishing up the podcast with myself editing. I would be trying to be edit the whole podcast then out of nowhere, we would have saving issues, glitches, and my group members saving things which led to a huge confusion. I was already stressed out and really could not handle anything else so I lashed out of my group for a good solid day or so being very disrespectful to them even though they were just trying to help. I felt really bad and still do but they know now what the deal was and I would most definitely go back and fix my attitude to everyone.
Looking back through this whole project, I feel that the biggest insight I took from this project was simply technology is changing. Things are going to change for many people whose jobs are not really intuitive and complicated which can be simply taken over by technology. I took that this is my future and time. My jobs and others can be taken by technology within the next 40 years. There is no need I think to say of what the biggest things I have learned from this project other than simply technology is changing and I better be ready for what is to come.
Going back into the project I feel that a majority of MY work was not all the best. The main highlight of what I AM proud of are my teammates. My group members. We had gone through alot with miscommunication and much more variables. I am very proud of how we pulled this off with all of the problems that we have had. Thus we had goofed off some times, we did focus a lot and made something. I know for certain that we all had never made a podcast without voice being projected with listeners to hear and that's why I am proud of them. We all got out of our comfort zone and created something that we had never done before.
I know for certain that I had grew as a collaborator. Someone who can handle stress. I felt so much stress on this project with editing, fussing with audio, and much more that lead to arguing, stressed, and miscommunication. Everyone in my group felt it. I felt it the most. It took me time to overcome this. I sat back and just listened to music and thought about the little things. I grew as a group thinker and member who helps everyone who is in need for help. I grew as a collaborator to handle what others think and I don't agree with. I found this in a lot of spots in this project but to sit back and to always think to myself that it's not always just about myself. Why not help and pursue people ideas. Who knows, maybe they might have better ideas than me and that came true in this project. This all made me grow as a collaborator with the help of everyone in my group.
